The founding leader and one time governorship candidate of the APC in Delta, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor has celebrated the final collapse of the PDP in Delta following the recent enmasse defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and all members and structure of the PDP to the APC.
In an address during the Unity Meeting held at the Wetland hotel, Ughelli Sunday, June 8, the APC chieftain said it has been the life dream of the APC to take control of politics and governance of Delta State from the PDP that had dominated the political landscape of the state since 1999.
Recalling his experience in the political system of Delta State, Emerhor lamented that the PDP dominance frustrated his political ambitions for governor and Senator through its vicious rigging machine and rejoiced that at last the all powerful PDP which he compared to Goliath, has been collapsed in to the APC without throwing a stone to kill the Goliath.
“This day, today, was the dream some of us had looked forward to; Ewherido started it but God knows best; he took him away and I stepped into his shoes and I ran for the Senatorial seat election in 2013 … they rigged me out. In 2015, as the leader of the party, I said APC must go to Asaba. I tried my best in 2015, the same thing. Since 1999, PDP has been the Goliath in Delta State; we’ve been playing David. We have been praying to God that we would get that stone that we would use to kill the Goliath but today, we didn’t have to throw any stone; God did it Himself,” he remarked.
Also speaking, the Urhobo-born Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development and a chieftain of the APC, Mr Festus Keyamo, pointed out that the need for unity of the defected members of the PDP and the old members in the party cannot be overemphasized.
”Since 1999, there has been no time that Delta Central has been so united than today and any resolution we pass here today is the resolution of the Urhobo people.”
Others who spoke include Chief Ighoyota Amori, Chief Paulinus Akpeki

Highlight of the occasion was a confidence vote moved by Rt Hon Francis Waive, member representing Ughelli/Udu federal Constituency at the green chamber and seconded by one time House of Reps member representing Ethiope East LGA, Chief Halims Agoda; a motion for adoption of President Bola Tinubu and Governor sheriff Oborevwori as sole candidates of the party for president and governor of Delta in the 2027 general elections.
The motion was unilaterally adopted through unanimous voice vote.
“I stand to propose, I move a motion that Delta Central All Progressives Congress adopt Mr. President as our sole candidate … and having seen the good works of our governor, I move that he be the sole candidate of our great party come 2027.” Waive moved.
Dignitaries present at the occasion included Sen. Ede Dafinone, Senator, Delta Central Senatorial District; Chief Jaro Egbo, Chairman, Ughelli North Local Government Area; Elder Omene Sobotie, Chairman, APC, Delta State; and Olorogun John Oguma, leader, APC, Ughelli South Local Government Area. Others were Hon. John Nani, Chairman, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC); Stella Okotete, former National Women Leader, APC; and Mr. Igho Majemite, former Youth Leader.
