* Cite poor quality of job done

Indigenes of adjoining communities of Ofagbe, Ellu, Ovrode, Okpe–Isoko, Uro and Ada–Irri impacted by the construction of Isoko Ring Road, have called on outgoing Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to direct the Contractor handling the project, DORA–DAN GLOBAL RESOURCES to relocate to site immediately to execute the job to specification and acceptable standard or the governor should revoke and re award the contract to a more competent contractor.
They complained that the job the present contractor is doing is shoddy and slow paced.
The call was contained in a petition dated 20th April, 2023 and signed by Engr. Cyril Jeke, the President- General of Ofagbe Community, on behalf of the impacted communities.
They said that the contract which costs six billion naira and was later reviewed to seven billion naira has suffered undue delay and with very poor quality of job done so far by DORA-DON GLOBAL SERVICES, the contracting firm.
According to the petition, the few areas asphalted by the contractor so far are shabbily done so much that if it rains, the center of the road would be flooded with a threat to flushing the asphalt away.
“The sand filling is below specification level in several areas and the construction of the major bridge on the road is weak and likely to collapse if remedial work is not done on it and that would be devastating to Ofagbe, Ovrode and the environs by the next raining season when flooding is expected.
“It is quite disheartening that as we write, the contractor only has one tipper, one grader and one old bulldozer on site even though Government had approved very reasonable variation on the project.”They rued, adding, “this clearly shows that the contractor is incompetent, ill prepared and not committed.”
They reminded Governor Okowa that as a parting gift, the multi billion naira Isoko Ring Road should be a legacy project that he should be appreciated and remembered for and hence, the need for a competent and tested contractor to handle it cannot be over emphasized.
“We thank the governor for his magnanimity and show of love to the Isoko people but what needs to be done should be done well.”
“Two years after the award of the contract and with less than 33 days to the expiration of the Governor Okowa administration, only 35 per cent of job, and shoddy for that matter, has been done on the road.” The petition pointed out.
