Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Winner of the 2023 presidential election .
The 2023 presidential and national assembly election held on February 25, 2023.
Declaring the final results on Wednesday morning after over four days of anxiety laden with controversy on the transparency and credibility of the election, Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu said the presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu defeated 17 other contestants to emerge winner of the election.
The declaration was made at the National Collation Centre, Abuja.
He said the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to emerge overall winner with the highest number of votes.
Yakubu added that Tinubu also scored 25 percent of votes in 30 States of the federation in accordance with requirements of the Constitution which recommends at least 25 percent of 24 States including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Yakubu also announced that the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was the runner up with 6,984,520 votes (29.9%) and was closely followed by Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party who polled 6,101,533 votes (26.1%). The candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso came a distant fourth with 1,496,687 votes (6.4%).
Tinubu, Atiku and Obi won 12 states each and Kwankwaso won only Kano State.
