* They can go to hell—Ejieh
By Jon Egie
The recent endorsement of Deputy Senate President and Delta APC Governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege by retired primary schools teachers and staffs of local education authorities across Delta State has generated ripples among their retired counterparts in the local government service.
Reacting to the endorsement and assurance of 50,000 votes for Senator Ovie Omo-Agege on March 11, local government retirees complained that they were not carried along in the meeting where the endorsement was made.
In a statement issued by Pst Daniel Onosanimoni and Engr Godwin Ekenini both Chairman and Secretary of the local government retirees group respectively, they disociated themselves from the outcome of the Ozoro meeting where Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was endorsed.
“As a body, we were not consulted and were not part of the meeting at Ozoro and therefore, whatever resolution reached therefrom, is for the primary schools teachers retirees only, it does not bind us.”
Claiming to be non-partisan and poised for the payment of their gratuities and pensions, they said their members use only known legal and constitutional channels to press home their demands without resorting to partisan politicking by endorsing any political party or gubernatorial candidate.
It would be recalled that at a strategic meeting with Senator Omo-Agege, retirees from public primary schools in Delta State led by Chief Mrs Helen Ejieh assured that the retirees who are over 5,000 across the State will mobilize at least ten persons, including family members and associates to deliver not less than 50,000 votes for Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to be elected governor of Delta State on March 11, 2023.
Confronted with the position of the local government retirees, Mrs Ejieh maintained the stand of retirees from public primary schools teachers and staffs of local education authorities on the assurance saying that they have the critical mass to do as they have said.
“For sure, we maintain what we have said. The assurance stands. We are not disturbed by the reaction of the local government retirees. We are on ground, how many are they? They are ashamed that they are not bold enough to do what we have done. They cannot go on protest. They are doing eye service. They are doing that because they do not feel the same pains with us. Most of them have been paid up to 2019 but none of our people have been paid up to 2016. They can go to hell.” Mrs Ejieh fumed.
