Delta State Government will soon embark on strict enforcement of traffic regulations, improve efforts on speed limit control and carry out operational checks for road fitness of articulated trucks plying various routes in the state.
The State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban), Mr Reuben Izeze Esq disclosed this in a statement issued in response to recurring incidents involving articulated trucks particularly around Ubu Bridge in Ogwashi-Uku along the newly constructed Ughelli-Asaba dual carriageway.
He said the decisive measures are aimed at curbing the rising cases of accidents involving heavy duty vehicles on the corridor.
Speaking in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori policy on free movement, the Honourable Commissioner called for collective action from stakeholders to support the measures so as to prevent future occurrences of accidents on the road.
He particularly appealed to road safety experts, other professionals and concerned citizens to offer practical suggestions targeted at achieving zero accident cases at the affected stretch.
