Gov Sheriff Oborevwori presents budget estimates of N1.664tn for 2026 fiscal year

Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has presented a budget estimates proposal of N1,664trillion to the Delta State House of Assembly for consideration, debate and approval.

Presenting the budget yesterday in the floor of the chambers of the House, the governor said the economic outlook of 2026 is broadly optimistic with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth projected at 3.9 per cent .

He said the continuing stability in fiscal and monetary policies, rising oil revenues, implementation of tax reforms, and improved Foreign Direct investment (FDI), the economy is on track of full recovery.

The 2026 budget estimates seeks growth with a stable macro economic environment, focus on long-term economic growth that is inclusive, developing human capital, accelerating infrastructure renewal, enhancing social cohesion, reducing the debt burden and managing resources better.

The budget was enriched with inputs from relevant stakeholders: President General of communities, civil society organizations, NGOs, association of professional bodies, chamber of commerce, major state contractors(local and global), banks and artisan unions. It therefore, represents priorities and goals of people of Delta State, focusing on critical areas that will drive the economic growth, improve infrastructure, enhance education and healthcare delivery, as well as promote the overall welfare of citizens of the state.

Tagged Budget of accelerating the MORE Agenda, the 2026 budget estimates allocates N499billion for recurrent expenditure, a 30 per cent chunk of the proposal and N1,165trillion, a 70 per cent chunk for capital expenditure.

It has N685billion, 70 per cent increase over the previous years fiscal budget estimates proposal which stood at N979,228,818,719 that was tagged Budget of Fiscal Consolidation. Actual revenue receipts for the 2025 budget was N738,640billion.
