College of Commerce, Warri was 79 years old yesterday.
Established in 1946, the school was founded by late Chief Edward Sido and late Chief Kagho Omomadia with their best friend late Chief Egbe .
Chief Sido and Chief Kagho had their private commercial institutes in Warri which they decided to combined and called it United College of Commerce, 1945.
They started at Sido street before they moved to no. 110 Warri/ Sapele Road Warri. With increase in pupil enrollment, there was demand of expanse of space of land and with the assistance of late Chief Sam Warri Essi Idesoh and late Chief Agaga with some stakeholders from Agbarha the school was relocated to her present site with classes, boarding sporting facilities.
Some hostels wereat MCC Road Enerhen. It was purely commercial subjects.
Meanwhile with the assistant from COCOSA members 1980s wrote to Ministry of Education to include Science subjects to the school curriculum, it was approved. Thank God the school is now studying both commercial and science subjects.
The first principal of the school was late Chief Demos Akpore.
The school has four houses. Mowoe ( green) Kagho ( red) Sido (white) while Egbe house yellow colour.
In 1976 the Bendel State government took over the school and renamed it College of Commerce, Warri.
The school has cause to celebrate being first secondary school in Warri that has overtimes produced technocrats, politicians, sports men and women, professional bodies, captains of industries, business tycoons home and overseas, entertainments worlds said Elder Lucky Digbori, a Senior Citizen of Nigeria, an alumnus.
