The people of Ogbeson N’ Evbosa, Ovia – North -East Local Government Area, Edo State have restated their autonomy in protest to the Palace of the Benin Kingdom, HRM. Oba Ewuare II recently.
Ogbeson N’ Evbosa is bounded by Iyekeze, Agbonmoba, Iguomo, and Iguesodin N’ budin Villages since Oba Erediauwa approved their autonomy in 2013, they said while addressing Palace Chiefs.
Led by their Odionwere, (traditional Head), Samuel Okoro Igbinosun, they complained that suddenly, Pastor Sunday Osahon Igbinosun who claim to be the Okaighele of Iguesodin N’ Ebudin has repeatedly launched unprovoked attack on them; annexing their land.
Pastor Igbinosun they said, has continued to unleash on them mayhem, allegedly claiming his authority extends to Ogbeson N’ Evbosa.
He claimed, he was appointed by the Benin Monarch HRM Oba Ewuare II to oversee his Village including Ogbeson N’ Evbosa according to a letter he paraded purportedly issued by Secretary to Benin Traditional Council, Frank Erhabor.
The letter said Ogbeson N’ Evbosa is not autonomous, but a quarter in a neighbouring Village: Iguesodin N’ Ebudin,.
Frank Ekunwe one of the elders speaking on behalf of his people, said the Benin Monarch in 1996 resolved in favour of Ogbeson a land dispute between her and Iyekeze Village thus affirming her autonomy.
The people lament, that pastor Igbinosun and collaborators are trying to take charge of affairs of Ogbeson even when their Odionwere is still in charge “and we are not particularly happy about it that is why we have come to the Palace of our Monarch” they said.
Pledging their continued loyalty, the people appealed to the Monarch, HRM Oba Ewuare II to look into their petition with fatherly disposition.
Responding, Chief Esere of Benin, Stanley Obamwonyi assured, that their petition will be rightly delivered to the Benin Monarch.
