Vigilante group of Nigeria (VGN) Delta State Command, Zone 2, Sapele branch, has launched for an operational vehicle in its bid to promptly nip crime in the bud in an effective security system.
The Divisional Police officer of Sapele police station, CSP, Harrison Nwanbueze, who was a special guest of honour at the epoch making event held at Songhai farm Amukpe-Sapele, appealed to Ovwore-Amukpe community people to make sacrificial contributions to VGN, so that they can successfully purchase the vehicle of their choice for their effective operations of combating crime in the area.
He attributed the successful activities of the police in Sapele to the unflinching collaboration of VGN members that gives criminal elements sleepless nights as they confront criminals activities headlong.
Mr Nwanbueze while describing Mr Sunday Asini the Zone 2 Commander, as a dogged crime fighter who has a clean record at the Sapele police station , remarked that the entire area within his operational base has been very peaceful since he pursues crime to the letter and never meddles on civil issues, but give him police his fullest support and cooperation.
The DPO, added, ” Mr Asini, please respect the people of this community because they are the people who can give this group the materials with which you would work with effectively to protect life and properties of your people . Do your work diligently and I will always support you as you do your job.”
He continued, ” Do not put your hands on dirty jobs . Settle minor issues and never put your hands on capital offences. Protect the properties and the lives of your people. Do not meddle on land issues remember every member of this community are your family members.”
“Asini has a clean record at the Sapele police station. Please no one should betray him. Others will do same to you. I the DPO, I am solidly behind you. Your launching will be successful and you will buy that vehicle and other materials to protect your people in Jesus name.” He stated.
On his part, the Deputy Commander, VGN, Delta Command, Mr N O Kosini, charged every member of the society to support the work of VGN, remarking that police alone can not do the duty of preventing crime all alone.
He stressed that the people must procure the material needs of security agencies because it is the same people whom they are meant to protect with the same vehicles and arms, pointing out that securing the people is not a laughing matter and it is a serious issue that could not be toyed with.
Mr Kosini charged his men to always observe rules of engagement, by obeying the law, be very civil and cordial with people and never to carry AK 47 rifles while doing their duty except pump action , or double barel guns.
He appealed to Ovwore people to provide VGN with vehicles adding that ” for instance, if you call vigilante people that there is robbery at Eku Road at any point, they can not fly to that point on time, but with avaliable vehicle, they will arrive at the right time”
Mr Patience Inoni , Secretary Sapele Sawmiller association, Mr Emmanuel Atika, a leader in Ovwore community, Mr Sunday Douglas, Harrison Ekeleme, both leaders at Ovwore community, Hon Philip Biokoro former President general of ovwore community and others who participated in the launching, expressed satisfaction on the duty of the vigilantes in the area.
They appealed to the government , the people churches and corporate organisations to support the good works of vigilante in the entire state, noting that the society has evolved more than it was where the police alone can no longer fight criminal elements in our society.
Mr Sunday Asini, The Zonal Commander of VGN in Sapele, appreciated the efforts of all those who participated in the lunching assuring that in no time, a new vehicle would be procured with the cash realised from the exercise.
He recalled the early days of the area especially the Eku -Sapele Road axis where crime was prominent before they came to the rescue by chasing all criminals from the road, including towns and villages in the area.
