It is in this light that the Tompolo Foundation in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) authority located in Delta State has launched a program to sharpen the teaching skills of corp members deployed to the rural and riverine communities of the State.

Over 50 corp members in Warri zonal area of the NYSC yesterday, March 18, participated in the launch of the training program aimed at enhancing their teaching methods and application of educational theories in the teaching and learning process.

Speaking during the official launch of the program, Founder and Chairman of Tompolo Foundation, Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo expressed the foundation’s steadfastness and commitment to initiatives that promote quality education.

He noted that education remains the foundation of social transformation and recognized the crucial role teachers play in shaping society’s future.

In testimony of a firsthand experience, growing up in the creeks of the Niger Delta, Tompolo acknowledged the challenges faced by corp members deployed to the rural and riverine communities in Delta State to carry out the assignment of effective teaching of students.

He said the deployment of corp members bridges the gap created by insufficiency of teaching staff in the rural and riverine communities but frowned, however, that corp members lack basic pedagogical skills required to to carry out effective teaching and hence, the Tompolo Foundation rose to the occasion in partnership with Delta State NYSC to equip the corp members deployed to the Warri zonal area with basic teaching skills that will enable them engage students and inspire critical thinking among learners.

For him, a well-trained corp member will leave a lasting impact on students they teach and foster a generation that is better equipped for future.

Dr Paul Bebeminibo who represented Tompolo speaking during the occasion

Represented by Dr Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo said the foundation has been assisting corp members deployed to the rural and riverine communities with stipends, accomodations and other incentives to encourage them, and reemphasized the foundation’s commitment to initiatives that promote quality education.

Early on, the Commissioner for Basic Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu commended the Tompolo Foundation and NYSC Delta State for the official launch of the training program and enjoined other stakeholders to emulate the foundation.

Director of education projects of the foundation, Dr Job Bebenimibo announced that the training program will properly kick off today, Wednesday, March 19, with 50 corp members in the first batch.
