Delta State Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has called for prayers to help surmount security challenges in the state.
Governor Sheriff made the call yesterday when leadership of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) led by Bishop Kingsley Enakirerhi visited him at the Government House in Asaba.
With special concession to Section 14(2b) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, Governor Sheriff said he holds the security and welfare of citizens of the state high even though there were “some seeming intractable security challenges bedeviling the state”, and hence, called for prayers to enable the administration tackle and resolve them.
He thanked the PFN and other religious and cultural bodies for the role they played in ensuring peace during the heat period of the #EndBadGovernance Protest in Delta state and credited the peaceful disposition of protesters in the state to the collective effort of all stakeholders, especially prayers of the church.
“I want to thank the PFN for the role it played at this trying time of a national protest. We can see that the state is peaceful. People were expecting violence like the way it was during ENDSARS.
“But our fathers of faith prayed and all of us also resolved that we do not need crisis in Delta State. We are all working together. Today is the 7th day of the protest and you can see the State is peaceful. People are going about their normal businesses.
The governor commiserated the passing of the Executive Director of projects on the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Olorogun Talib Tebite. According to him, the state government did what it could to assist during the travail of the health challenge but unfortunately, he was lost.
“We cannot question God. We did our best but God chose to take him at this time. May his soul continue to rest in peace,” he said.
Early on, Bishop Enakirerhi said the purpose of the visit was to pledge PFN’s unalloyed and unflinching support to the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. He commended the governor for his wisdom in managing the affairs of the state so far, particularly the handling of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests across the country which has since relaxed in Delta state after Day 2 of the social disturbance.
Bishop Enakirerhi who is the State Chairman of the PFN commended the State Government for its contributions towards the completion of the PFN Secretariat at Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
He, also, used the opportunity to invite the Governor for the Fellowship’s oncoming Annual Prayer and Thanksgiving on August 22 and also condoled with the Governor on the passing of Hon. Taleb Tebite.
