Police rescue 2 kidnap victims along Agbarho-Ughelli Express Road

Operatives of the Nigeria Police attached to the Ovwian Police Station, Delta State Police Command, yesterday, Monday, April 24, have rescued two kidnap victims after a gunfight with their abductors.

The two victims, Ovigwe Dagagba (31) and Obinna Nwankwo (29), both male and residents of Usiefrun community in Ughelli South LGA were intercepted by their abductors while riding in a tricycle, taken captive and carted away in a Toyota Corolla car belonging to one of the victims and headed towards Udu.

Upon notice of the abduction, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Ovwian, CSP Aliyu Shaba promptly mobilized and led a team of Operatives and traced the abductors to the ECN Junction along Agbarho-Ughelli Express Road where they engaged the kidnappers in a gunfight, forcing the criminals to abandon the get away vehicle and the victims and escaped into the bush with gun injuries.

A release issued by the Command’s PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe said the victims were then rescued unhurt and have been united with their families while manhunt for the fleeing Kidnappers was ongoing.

The release added that during a search of the vehicle, twenty-six (26) pieces of assorted android phones, one cut-to-size locally made single barrel gun, thirty-eight (38) rounds of live cartridges, two expended cartridges, two Monie Point of Sale, POS machines, four power banks, two empty female hand bags were recovered. The tricycle with reg no. KPE 73 QT used by the suspected kidnappers was also recovered.

Commending the Operatives for a job well done, Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge Operations, DCP Johnson Adenola directed officers and men of the Command to sustain the tempo in the fight against crime and criminality and also urged members of the public to report any suspicious person or movement around them.
