Four armed robbery and kidnapping suspects have been shot dead by the police following gunfight at their hideouts in various locations across Delta State.
Police Public Relations officer for Delta State Police Command, SP Edafe Bright disclosed this during a press briefing held in Ughelli.
A cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered at the hideouts after police Operatives dealt deadly blow on the criminals and sacked their hideouts.
In Mosogar, Ethiope East LGA at a hideout called Small Pastor Area, 2 AK 47 rifles, 1K2 rifle, 2 automatic pump action guns, 1 locally made cut-to-size gun, 5 AK 47 rifle magazines, 3 K2 rifle magazines, 101 K2 rifle live ammunition, 2 handcuffs and 10 live cartridges were recovered.
A syndicate member, Godstime Ajugba who was earlier arrested led operatives to the hideout where kidnap victims and their weapons were kept.The suspect is in custody as investigation is ongoing.
At Coconut village by Mercy City along Warri/Sapele Road a suspect simply identified as Eto was earlier arrested with a bag containing 57 live cartridges. He led operatives to the hideout where another suspect identified as Sunny was waiting to receive the consignment commonly called ‘groundnuts’ was arrested. The suspects led operatives to the main hideout behind 3 Battalion Nigeria Army Barracks Estate in Effurun to a camp called ‘Korodo’. Gang members on sighting police opened fire on the operatives and the operatives engaged them in response. In the ensuing shootout the two suspects were hit and died later while receiving treatment in hospital. The other gang members escaped.
Items recovered from the hideout include: 1 pump action gun, 1 locally made cut-to-size gun, 8 live cartridges, 6 IPhone, a number of smart phones and a Rolex Gold wristwatch.
Two suspects of a gang linked with the the kidnap of a man in Ughelli who demanded N5million as ransom were arrested and led operatives of CP-SAT team to their hideout in Otokutu Road in Iyede. On sighting the Police the gang opened fire on the operatives. A gunfight ensued and the two suspects sustained fatal gunshot injuries and later died in hospital.
1 pump action gun, 1 Beretta pistol, 1 cut-to-size gun and 6 live cartridges were recovered from the hideout.
Meanwhile, three suspects namely Vincent Omonigho ‘m’ aged 22yrs, Omoni Ebi ‘m’ aged 34yrs, and Tive Paul ‘m’ aged 33yrs were arrest in Abraka and Okuokoko in Okpe LGA. Police preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects disguised as transporters, and in some cases went to club and lured young girls promising them huge sum of money and eventually robbed them in lonely roads. The Suspects robbed one of their victims, transferred seven hundred and fifty thousand naira from her bank account and also collected her IPhone 15 pro max and IPhone 13 pro max. Suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing. SP Edafe Bright said.
