The police in Delta are investigating a reported case of rape lodged at the Sapele division of the State Police Command.
The victim, a 25 year old lady of Sapele/Warri Road reported that on Monday, November 8, at about 2000hours while she was moving along Amagiya Road, Sapele the suspect identified as Ayuba Adavo, 34, suddenly blocked her way and dragged her to his room where, at gun point, forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
She added that the suspect who was heavily drunk thereafter slept off and she took advantage of that moment to escape ànd reported the incident at the Sapele division of the Nigeria Police.
The police swang into action and at 0010hrs arrested the suspect based on the strength of the reported case .
At the point of his arrest, one locally made cut to size gun with one live bullet were found on him. Investigation has since commenced.
In a related development, the police, also in Sapele has recovered one suspected stolen vehicle and one fabricated double barrel pistol from hoodlums.
A release by the Spokesman of the Command, DSP Bright Edafe said on Sunday, Nov 7,
at about 2200hrs, “Patrol team attached to Sapele Division while on operation show of force saw a Toyota camry spider car with reg NO. GRA 291 RL being driven in a suspicious manner; the patrol on convoy went after the said vehicle and chased them to Olympia area. The hoodlums on noticing that the police was chasing them opened fire on the teams which was replied by the police. The hoodlums who could not withstand the fire power of the police abandoned the said vehicle and fled into the bush.
“Upon searching the vehicle, one locally made double barrel pistol and five live cartridges were recovered. Investigation has commenced and efforts are on top gear towards arresting the fleeing hoodlums.” The PPRO said.
Meanwhile, a kidnap victim, Mudia Efe of Abraka has been rescued by the police in Agbarho.
Police report said on Sunday, Nov 7 at about 1200hrs, Police patrol team from Agbarho division while on township patrol sighted a grey colour Lexus 330 Jeep with Reg. No. KWL 841 BM and the driver on noticing the police reversed and sped off.
“The team trailed the escaping Lexus Jeep to Sobotie Street Agbarho where the suspected vehicle fell into a ditch. The suspects quickly disembarked from the vehicle and ran into a nearby bush. One Mudia Efe ‘m’ of Abraka was rescued and he said that the hoodlums kidnapped him from Abraka and the vehicle which belongs to the victim was recovered. Manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.” The PPRO said.
Adding to the catch of harvest of criminals in Delta State, the Command also arrested a serial ATM snatcher and fraudster, Ojo Amos, 38, of Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North LGA.
According to the police report the suspect who specializes in stealing ATM cards from unsuspecting victims on Tuesday, Nov 2, at about 1300hrs, the suspect was seen in a POS Stand located beside First bank Ozoro branch and acting in rip-off, DPO Ozoro Division detailed operatives who along with the Chairman of Olotu vigilante in Ozoro swung into action and arrested the suspect at the scene.
“Thirty- three (33) ATM cards and a cash sum of Fifty thousand Naira(#50,000) were recovered from him. Suspect confessed that he stole one of the cards from one Rufai Abdulahi at zenith bank, Kwale branch and left immediately. He said he later withdrew the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira (#250,000) from the victim account. Preliminary investigations later revealed that the suspect usually stays behind his victims at the ATM machine waiting and targeting people who he feels are not too educated, old women/children and once he noticed that they were having problem operating the ATM machine, he would move closer to them pretending to be a bank staff trying to help them and in the process he swapped the ATM cards.
“Suspect also confessed that he watched them as they entered their ATM pins, memorized the PINs and after swapping the ATM cards, he used either a POS stand or ATM machine to empty their bank accounts.
He said he has been doing this for the past four years.
“The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, PSC(+) while urging members of the public to be law abiding also adviced that they learn from the cases regularly reported by the Command and be vigilant when making use of their ATM cards and ensure that only uniform bank staff be allowed to assist them when the need arises.”
