Delta State Police Command has burst a kidnap gang that had been operating within the hub of Ughelli, Warri, Sapele and environs .
CP Abaniwonda Olufemi reiterates proactive policing is key in the fight against crime and criminality, and he urges members of the public to exercise patience when interfacing with the police, especially during stop and search.
A special team of Operatives led by ASP Julius Robinson that was deployed to Ughelli by the commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi stormed Oghara town after gathering useful Intel and arrested a 28yrs suspect who is a member of Eiye confraternity resident in Oghara Delta State.
The suspect led the Operatives to a hotel in Koko Junction Oghara where another suspect aged 46yrs and a member of Eiye confraternity was arrested and an automatic Pump Action gun was recovered from him.
After an intensive interrogation session, the two suspects led the Operatives to the arrest of another 32 yrs old suspect in Sapele where one new AK-47 rifle with and an empty magazine were recovered.
” Preliminary investigation has linked the suspects to a series of kidnappings in Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, and the environs. The suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.” A release issued by the Command’s PPRO, SP Edafe Bright said.
In another development, acting on credible intelligence Operatives on special assignment at Ughellli had been trailing a notorious cultist/gun runner identified as Okobe Ability ‘m’, narrowly missed catching the suspect when the Operatives stormed Oleh town in Isoko South LGA of Delta State, where he was holed up. But on sighting the police Operatives the suspect quickly dropped a black polythene bag in his possession and escaped. Upon search of the bag, One baretta pistol, and five(5) live ammunition were recovered.
“Efforts to arrest the fleeing suspect are ongoing,” The release added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi commended officers and men of the Command for their determined effort in fighting crime and criminality but cautioned that in the course of discharging their duty, ” they must respect the rights of citizens and ensure that they discharge their duties in accordance with the law and called on members of the public to cooperate with the Police while on duty.”
