Policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad of Delta State Police Command, who in a viral video, were seen assaulting a young man along Asaba-Onitsha Expressway, sometime in August this year, have been sanctioned.
This was contained in a release issued by the Command’s PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe yesterday.
According to the release, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali condemned the wrong conduct of the police officers and urged members of the public to remain calm, assuring of the Command’s commitment to dealing with any officer who abuses citizens’ human rights.
“The attention of the Delta State Police Command has been drawn to a video making round on various social media handles.
“The video captured Policemen attached to Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Command assaulting a young man along the Asaba-Onitsha expressway.
“The Command condemns the act of the Policemen in totality.
“The Command wishes to state that the incident occurred sometime in the month of August 2021 and immediately it was brought to the knowledge of the Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc+ directed the incident be looked into which has since been done and the erring Policemen indeed found guilty of assault and were subjected to internal disciplinary mechanism after which they were adequately sanctioned.
“The CP while condemning the malfeasance conduct of the officers also urges members of the public to remain calm and assured of the Command’s commitment in dealing with any officer who disregard the human right of any person.
” To this end, members of the public are urged to call any of the following numbers and report cases of abuse to human rights or any other infractions by Policemen of the Command.
