Old students of St Joseph’s College Ozoro defeat in-school-students 2-0 in a novelty match

Football team of St Joseph’s College Ozoro Old Students Association defeated the football team of in-school Students of the institution in a novelty match played at the main bowl of the school football pitch, Friday, December 12, 2025.

The novelty match was part of activities mapped out for Day One of the Plantinum celebration of the founding of St Joseph’s College Ozoro.

Early on during the day, the old students led a contigent of the in-school students on street parade to the palace of the traditional ruler of Ozoro kingdom, HRM, Barr Anthony Ovietobore Ogbogb JP, Ibuka 1, Ovie of Ozoro.

At the palace, Mr Vincent Ederigbe who led the contigent introduced the old students and in-school students to the monarch and informed him of the line up of activities marking the 70th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the school.

Responding, the monarch gave the contigent a warm welcome and assured that he would be personally present to join in the activities mapped out for Day Two of the Plantinum celebration.

The old students football team was led by 1982 Captain of the school team, Comrade Gabriel Adogbeji supported by veteran Goalkeeper, Mr Sunday Odjegba who was also the school football team Goalkeeper over some 45 years ago.

At the second half of the match, Sunday Odjegba re-lived his old time goalkeeping skills when he dived full stretch to save a free kick fired by the in-school-students in attempt to get even.

At the end of the second half, the scoreline was 2-0 in favour of the old boys.
