The National Exco and the entire 12 million membership strength of the Niger Delta People Citizens’ Rights Advocacy Group (CRAG) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately constitute the Senate screened and endorsed list of people as the substantive board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
ln a tersely worded communique, the group National Coordinator, Fun-ororo Narebor,Esq, stated :
“Now that the long awaited forensic audit report is out and submitted to the president, the board should be inaugurated without further delay because anything short of that is a disservice to the Niger Delta region in Particular and Nigeria in general.”
The CRAG leadership stressed that the continuous management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by a Sole Administrator despite the completion and submition of NDDC forensic audit report to the Federal Government will no longer be acceptable to the Niger Delta region.
The group in strong terms aligned itself with the South-South Governors, Ijaw National Congress, Traditional Rulers, Youth Groups and all well meaning individuals to call for the immediate constitution and inauguration of the substantive board of the NDDC to save Niger Delta from avoidable crisis.
Continuing ,the CRAG statement reads further:
“We unequivocally call on the Federal Government to immediately constitute the Senate screened board for the NDDC because the forensic audit which was the sole reason stated for the delay in constituting the substantive board is over.”
The group emphasized that It is regrettable to note that some persons in representative capacity in the Niger-Delta are saying that the substantive board of NDDC should be suspended until decisions on forensic audit is taken by Mr. President.
The CRAG leadership explained that anybody especially from the Niger Delta region that is advocating for a stay in action for the constitution of the substantive board of the NDDC is a grand conspirator against the Niger-Delta and does not mean well for the Niger Delta people.
CRAG saliently noted :
“For a period of over five months, the media space, both print, electronic and Social media was replete with the condemnation of the continuous running of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, without a management board.
The statement added:
“In various meetings with South-South Governors, Traditional Rulers, Youth Groups and High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, senator Godswill Akpabio promised that a new board of management for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) would be constituted immediately after the forensic audit of the commission”,
From available records it is clear that the path of honor is for President Buhari to constitue the board that is already screened and cleared by the Nigerian Senate which is in sync with the wish of the Niger Delta People.
It is executive rascality to allow old wounds to be festered in the Niger Delta region for no just cause before the FG will begin to think of how to fix it politically after the monster have eaten a better half of our common wealth
