Delta State immediate past Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Peter Adogbejire Mrakpor, has undertaken a tour of some schools in Delta State to distribute books and cash prizes to students to aid their learning even as the 2021/2022 academic session recently began its journey.
The exercise is being run by his media aide, Akpovoke Otiti.
Otiti who on Monday, October 11, 2021 landed in Arhavwarien Grammar School and Edjekota Secondary School in Ughelli South and Ughelli North local government areas respectively, distributed books worth thousands of naira to the students of the schools amidst cheering and pomp.
He revealed that the gesture was also meant to celebrate Nigeria’s 61st Independence Day.
The media aide who informed that he was sent extolled the qualities of his boss, Dr. Mrakpor, maintained that the gesture was a demonstration of his boss’ desire to positively impact the lives of the young ones whom he affirmed are the future leaders.
While handing the notebooks over to the beneficiaries, Comr Otiti informed that his boss decided to celebrate the country’s independence with the young ones as a demonstration of his love and passion for the young citizens of the nation and their educational pursuit.
He therefore urged them to emulate the leadership qualities of his Principal to prepare them to be responsible and patriotic leaders in the future.
Otiti also stressed the need for early guidance for young people in life through mentoring to secure a good future.
“We believe that these young people will one day control the leadership space. It is important to let them see the beauty of patriotism, loyalty, dedication, humility, inclusiveness, and tolerance which the former Attorney-General represents. If we miss out on this, then we have lost the opportunity to rightly groom a successor that will drive this nation after this current set of leaders may have vacated the scene.
“We must be thinking about the prosperity of our nation alongside the quality of generations of her leaders. And this must begin now,’’ he stated.
He continued: “Every child needs to acquire education. In the society today, if you are not educated, there is no way you can sell in whatever business you are doing. Whether you are a bricklayer or a carpenter, you need education; you need knowledge to be able to upgrade yourself to some extent. So, I’m urging leaders to put more emphasis on education.”
At Arhavwarien Grammar School, Otiti urged the students to imbibe the qualities of the former Commissioner so they could become good citizens. In his speech, the Vice-principal, Mr. A. Ochuko, appreciated the gesture and advised the students to make good use of the materials and to strive to high places of life like the ex-commissioner. Also responding, an SS II student of the school who won a cash prize for his understanding of some qualities of Dr. Mrakpor, Kparobo Godswill, said he admired Dr. Mrakpor and would like to imbibe his qualities and show discipline at all times.
“I will always imbibe the qualities of former Commissioner Mrakpor . I think I need to be disciplined everywhere I find myself inwardly and outwardly,’’ he said.
