MLSCN Inducts 36 new qualified Graduates At Edo State University

The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) have inducted 36 new qualified Graduates at the 3rd Edo State University Uzairue induction and oath taking ceremony.

Performing the induction and oath taking on the 2022/2023 newly qualified graduates of the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), the Registrar/CEO of the Council, Dr Tosan Erhabor, said the new graduates were now certified as medical laboratory scientists and were qualified to work in any health facilities in the country.

Dr. Erhabor who was represented by Uchunm Gregory, Director Scientist Regulations and Discipline, commended the university for the giant stride recorded so far in the MLS department and the cordial relationship between the institution and the council.

While congratulating the MLS graduating students, advised them to show respect for their elderly professional colleagues even if it is just a year.

Dr Erhabor also urged them to learn about the inter-professional collaboration with other health perssonel saying medical services is a team work as they work together to achieve results for the patient as that should be their focus.

“What do you do to ensure that your patient get up, whether as a lab scientist, doctor or nurse, it doesn’t take anything from you, just pass your information and I am assuming you Nigeria health services will take a turn for the better”.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the university Engr. Prof Emmanuel Aluyor said that the MLS students have made a remarkable accomplishment in the MLS department.

The VC therefore used the opportunity to expressed gratitude to the Registrar of the MLSCN, Dr. Tosin Irhabor for always being a supportive to the university drive to develop a world class department of MLS, assuring that with his support, the department will soon achieve the status of a faculty in the university.

He said the journey of excellence and commitment in the field of MLS in the institution has been nothing short of extraordinary as it a testament to the hard work, dedication and unwavering support from the faculty, students and administrative staff.

Prof Aluyor also thanked the state governor Mr Godwin Obaseki for the provision of world class facilities in the university and the multi million naira molecular laboratory donated by the Chancellor Dr Aderemi Makanjuola was also worthy of mentioned.

He revealed that one of the department’s most significant achievements has been the attainment of full accreditation by the relevant regulatory bodies adding that the accreditation speaks to the high standards the university uphold and the quality of education earned the school recognition and respect not only within the state but also across the nation.

According to him, “the Medical Laboratory Science department has been actively engaged in groundbreaking research and publications, our faculty members and students have contributed to the body of knowledge in the field, earning the university recognition”.

“We are proud of our state-of-the-art laboratory and equipment such as the molecular laboratory available to train our students. The department has consistently invested in upgrading and maintaining modern facilities, ensuring that our students have access to the latest technology, thereby enhancing their practical skills and knowledge”.

Congratulating the graduating students, their families, the faculty and staff who have contributed to their success, said the MLS department has been a shinning example of dedication, excellence and commitment to striving to set new standards in healthcare education.

Delivery the induction lecture titled “Negligence In Contemporary Practice Of Medical Laboratory Sciences In Nigeria: A System Failure” by Prof. Peter U. Achukwu, the MLS has satisfied the true meaning of a profession and the practitions are now recognized as authentive professional who are not subservient to any other professions.

He said to practice MLS succinctly with precision and accurate for the betterment of mankind, one must be the next person neighbour, one must treat the neighbour the way and manners one wishes to be treated.

Prof Achukwu who is from the university of Nigeria, Nsukka, said MLS practice must be done in conformity with duty of common humanity and there should be a periodic reappraisal of practice in addition to assessment of fitness to practice.

Also speaking, the Lecturer in Charge of Medical Laboratory Science department, Dr. Iyare Innocent said the inductees were the third set produced by the university, having spent five years in the institution.

He advised the graduates to remain good ambassadors of the profession and the Edo state university.

“Our dear inductees, I salute your courage for enduring through these past five years, it is worthy to be celebrated.

“Let me assure you of a brighter future out there and my advice is for you to be worthy ambassadors of this great world class institution”, he said

As we move forward, let us continue to nurture our passion for healthcare and research, working together to shape the future of our medical laboratory science profession.

“With the talent and determination that we have witnessed today, I am confident that the future of healthcare is in capable hands,” he said.

“I urge you all to adhere to the rules of professional conduct and practice within the limit of the law guiding the council,” he said.
