Man who feigned self kidnap and collected ransom from brother arrested by Police in Ughelli.

* Police hypothesize his involvement in murder of kidnap victim

A member of Eiye Confraternity who feigned his own kidnap and kidnap of his elder brother and other family members that eventually led to the death of his elder brother’s wife has been arrested by Operatives of the Delta State Police Command.

Giving details of the crime timeline in a release issued by the Command’s PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe, the Command said they have been investigating the murder of one Regina Ogana who was kidnapped along with her husband and other members of her family on Wednesday, August 2.

The ugly incident les to the death of Regina Ogana while the husband and others freedom was secured with the payment of N1.3 million at Odovie community in Ughelli North LGA where the ransom was collected by the kidnappers.

While the investigation was going on, the Command received another distress call from the husband of the deceased that one of his brothers Eseoghene Ezekiel Obeje ‘m’ aged 28 made a suspicious call to him that he was kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of Five hundred thousand Naira only (#500,000).

The required ransom sum was transferred into the said Eseoghene’s account .

The suspect

But suspicious of the developing crime, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass ordered to the DPO Oreropke Division to investigate the development and ensure that the perpetrators were arrested.

Consequently, on Friday, August 11,at about 1145hrs acting on technically generated information, Operatives of the Divisional Anti-Crime Patrol team led by the DPO, CSP Paul E. Oboware stormed Odovie community in Ughelli North LGA and arrested the said Eseoghene Ezekiel Obeje at the same spot where the sum of One Million Three Hundred Thousand Naira (#1,300,000.00) was earlier paid as ransom for the release of his elder brother and husband of the deceased.

Police preliminary investigation has revealed that the said Eseoghene is a member of Eiye confraternity and that he faked his own kidnap.

The police are also hypothesesing that the suspect also masterminded the kidnap of his brother and other family members which led to the death of Regina Ogana.
