President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been asked to listen to the huge outcry about hunger, insecurity and general feeling of anger by Nigerians otherwise, the prevailing situation of hardship in the country may be worse and the country head to trouble.
Secretary General of Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA) Worldwide, Pastor Wilson Egbodje gave the charge during the commissioning of a Ringwell donated by Class ’86 of the association to residents of Labourers’ quarters of the school, Tuesday, June 4.
Pastor Egbodje noted that the prevailing hardship in the country was caused by the removal of petrol subsidy by President Bola Tinubu without a concomitant move to resuscitate the moribund industries that could have enhanced export of manufactured goods to earn foreign exchange that would boost the nation’s economy.
According to him, a lot of Nigerians have expressed disappointment at the recorded achievements of President Bola Tinubu after one year in office because his assembled team could not deliver the desires and fulfill the yearnings of the people.
He called on the President to look around for experts, especially from the pool of old boys of Government College Ughelli spread across all ethnic groups of Nigeria who are renowned consultants in various fields of endeavour that have in the past, contributed hugely to the growth and development of Nigeria in all sectors.
He appealed to the expert hands and consultants among the old boys of GCUOBA, when contacted, not to hesitate to make whatever contributions they could to make Nigeria better.
He said the association has put in over N1.5 billion in maintenance, renovation and construction of infrastructure and facilities across the school and thanked members of Class ’86 for the donation of the Ringwell valued at over N500,000 saying the gesture would go a long way at ameliorating the suffering of the quarter residents who hitherto walked long distance to fetch water for their daily use.
Chairman of the class, Mr Akpotoboro Oghenemaro said the Ringwell was a pilot project of Class ’86 since he came to office in February 2024 and promised to do more in due time
Principal of the school, Mr Samson Obor thanked members of Class ’86 of the association saying the gesture was a demonstration of their concern for the welfare of humanity.
