Sequel to the legal victories which led Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, his predecessor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, PDP chieftains and stalwarts, friends and well wishers of the State government gyrating in praise and Thanksgiving at the Government House Chapel, Asaba; critics have told the governor to get to work, focus on governance and bring desired development to the people of Delta State rather than engaging in endless jumbo of praise and Thanksgiving services.
They also want the governor to sever the apron string of his predecessor whose physical presence at all public events have become too domineering even after leaving office.
In a tweet @RtHonSheriff, Saturday, June 8, the governor said there was high-sky excitement at the legal victory Thanksgiving celebrating his twin victory; as the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Thursday, July 6, dismissed a petition filed by the candidate of the Labour Party on the March 18, election, Kennedy Pela on ground of flagrant violation of the Electoral Act 2022, and the July 7, Supreme Court dismissal of an appeal filed by Chief Ikie Aghwaranovwe, seeking his disqualification. According to him, both rulings affirm that the Judiciary is the hope of the common man, and hence dedicated the victories to God , and as early gifts to his predecessor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa whose birthday celebration was a day ahead and to Deltans.
But in reaction, critics lashed at the governor expressing disatisfaction at the festering proximal attachment of the governor to his predecessor and engagements in series of praise and Thanksgivings in church services, asking@Naolitano, if he (the governor) could be holier than Saudi Arabia and Vatican City, and charged him to, “get to work and let church service be”.
Ogheneochuko@Calebfranklyn said, “the way you roll out events on social media, we are not seeing same energy with what you are doing in our State. In 4 years time you will hear from us if you don’t start working.”
Efezik@Efezik007 asked; ” why is Okowa always with you in any occasion? I am feeling that Okowa is doing his third tenure in office.”
Corenigerian@Ugboaja6 said, “Sheriff please forget this Chapel thing and deliver development for Deltans.”
DoubleXL@doubkexl…lux tweeted, “Hmmm, everyday Thanksgiving you guy haven’t start one single project.”
Nefe Onohwos@SirOmanef told the governor pointblank, “Baba just work, that’s all we are asking.”
Avwunufe Victory@Shakurdigital used the opportunity to plead with the governor to help the Engineering and Law students in Oleh Campus of Delta State University, by looking into the issue of electricity power supply in the area.
Ugochukwu@Lamugomsina politely cautioned the governor against hypocrisy saying, “Don’t use God and Church services to deceive your people, start working.”
Hon Ogochukwu Monyei retorted, “Sheriff, I hope no be praise and worship you come do for Delta as our governor? We never see much as regard ongoing projects and the new ones coming up that will affect the lives of Deltans. Please focus on governance more as our people are suffering the hardship.”
