Agency report
As regional tensions reached a fever pitch yesterday, Friday, US President Joe Biden said he expected an Iranian retaliatory attack on Israel “sooner [rather] than later.”
Speaking during a press conference, Biden implied this was based on classified information which he said he would not go into.
Asked by reporters about his message to Iran, Biden repeated the one he’d offered Tehran last October: “Don’t.
He underscored Washington’s commitment to defend Israel. “We are devoted to the defense of Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed,” he said.
Citing two unnamed US officials, CBS reported Friday that a major attack could be imminent and may include more than 100 drones and dozens of missiles aimed at military targets inside the country. They warned Israel would be challenged to fend off an assault of that scale.
The officials said it was possible Tehran may still opt for a smaller-magnitude strike in order to avoid a dramatic escalation.
