* Says Nigeria military is one of the best in the world
By Jon Egie
The Nigeria military has been described as one of the best in the world and rated at par with the Israeli military in terms of investment in human capacity training in the Army, Navy and Airforce.
The assessment was given by United States war veteran of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, 7th Corp, United States Armed Forces, Olorogun Jomo Ono Akpore Idise.
A statement issued by him from his Agbraran ranch, Orogun, Delta State, lamented the continued insecurity challenges to Nigeria saying that in spite of the huge investment and capacity of the Nigeria military, insurgent and terrorist groups like Boko Haram, Bandits and other non-state actors rear their heads in dominance and still hold sway in the Nigeria State.
He further lamented that retired military officers whose obligation in training was a lifetime of service to the nation are left redundant, wasting and unutilized.
Whereas, in more efficient climes like the State of Israel as currently is the situation in the Israel-Gaza War, veterans have their desks of active reserve duties to the SONGHAGON , 24 hours of the week.
” If Nigeria had a SONGHAGON the equivalent of a PENTAGON- the efficaciousness in rapidity to challenges of insecurities nation wide, would have melted away in quick and responsive measures. ”
He challenged the presidency to look inward and consider the security lapses that could occur due to ignorance of political hirelings who make skewed decisions on national security issues and are major beneficiaries of the deeply embedded military industrial complex.
He recalled the performance of Gen Ka Vigo who in tactical plans and implementation brought sanity to Warri, Effurun and Uvwie that boiled in violence and overheated in security challenges while he was in service.
He called on the federal government to engage such experienced retired military officers with record performance and lifelong skills and talents in dealing with insecurity challenges before Nigeria finds herself in the excessively worn out shoes of Liberia, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Iraq; unannounced.
