Ahead of the national elections holding on 25 February, 2023, the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate, Oredo Federal Constituency, Edo State, Hon. Osaro Obaze has declared: “I have a social contract with my people.”
Osaro, a former Chairman of the Local Government Council of Oredo, stated this at an interactive session with journalists in Benin to officially launch his campaign a couple of days ago.
Osaro asserts; he loves going through the ropes hence he is contesting at the House of Representatives level, even though he had been tested and trusted via the various positions of authority held previously.
Asserting he was hopeful of victory at the polls, the grassroots politician many have nicknamed: the ‘Street Governor’ promised to push for laws that would help ensure insecurity is brought to the barest minimum, aide the creation of jobs for the army of youths in Nigeria particularly; Oredo Federal Constituency, not forgetting the most vulnerable group: women, children, elderly and the physically challenged.
Also, he would push for the actualization of true federalism in Nigeria for the obvious reasons; and ensure Government creates the enabling environment for micro and small businesses to thrive.
In the same vein, “we will legislate to elevate the constitutional role of our traditional rulers to enable them impact our people better.
“Considering the all important nature of the health sector, we will make laws that would help promote primary health care; its smooth and effective running like obtained in other civilized clime of the world.
“I can assure you, that I have a social contract with my people because I am not happy with the seeming loss of confidence in politicians by the people, due to probably failed promises.”
Further he asserts, “I have the capacity to lobby”; a tool he said he would effectively put to use for the benefit of his constituents at the Lower House of the National Assembly.
On the chances of the Presidential candidate of his Party: the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu against all odds; the House of Representatives hopeful pointed out that politics is not mathematics but science with many underlying intrigues as the hallmark of a leader which he claimed Tinubu possesses are the people you surround yourself with.
Osaro reasserted: “I want to assure; I will be a voice, I will agitate and fight for the benefit of our people at the House of Representatives.”
Profile
Hon. Osaro Obaze was born into the family of Barr. David and Felicia Iyesogie Obaze; nurse by profession. He had his elementary education at Oreghene Primary School, and Edokpolor Grammar School for his secondary education, and the University of Benin for his first and second degrees; all in Benin-City. He served at the Ministry of Women Affairs Abuja, for his National Youth Service after which he went into the game of politics in 2002. In his early life, he worked for Obasco Company Nig. Ltd owned by his father.
Osaro is also an entrepreneur in the real estate sector.
Political Appointments
In 1999, he was appointed supervisory councilor for works, Lands and housing, Oredo Local Government Council. Also in 2004, he was appointed by the then Chairman Hon. Edosa Ebomwonyi as supervisory councilor for education in Oredo Local Government Council. Eventually, Osaro became Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council in 2013 to 2016. Thereafter, in 2019 he contested for a seat in the State House of Assembly and won, but due to some issues which arose from the party primaries, he lost at the Supreme Court.
Flowing from that background, today Osaro is vying for the House of Representatives seat in the Oredo Federal Constituency, in the forth coming elections of February 25, 2023.
