Ahead of the celebration of Eid el Kabir festival, Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Wale Abass has assured Muslim faithful of adequate security and free flow of traffic throughout the period of the celebration and hence, ordered massive deployment of personnel to provide security for Muslims across the State.
A statement issued by the Command’s PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe said the State Police Command will be working in close synergy with other sister security agencies which include the Military, DSS, NSCDC, Road safety etc, in other to ensure that the activities of all unfriendly forces such as kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists etc is nipped in the bud.
The CP warned cultists and other mischief makers to steer clear as the Command will deal decisively with anybody who found wanting.
“To this end, the CP has ordered massive deployment of personnel from Area Commands, Tactical formations, and divisions. The deployment also includes special constabularies across the state for the purpose of providing adequate security in all Muslim prayer grounds and strategic locations in the state.
“The CP also directed all DPOS to intensify raids of criminal hideouts and black spots within their areas of responsibilities.
” The CP enjoined the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of operations, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Operations Officers to employ means of ensuring thorough supervision of personnel deployed for the actualization of peace and tranquility during and after the celebration.
Armourer of Bone gang killed
Meanwhile, a 58 year old member and armourer of ‘Bobone’ armed robbery gang that had been terrorizing Warri and environs had been gunned down by Operatives of ‘A’ Division, Warri.
The Operatives who were led by the DPO, CSP TY Mahmud acting on credible intels, last Friday, June 23, at about 0645hrs stormed the hideout of a criminal gang located along Stadium Road Warri, arrested a 58yr old suspect and recovered one AK-47 rifle and three magazines, upon interrogation, suspect confessed to be a member and armourer of the dreaded “bobone” armed robbery gang terrorizing Warri and environs.
“He also gave the police additional information on the location of the other gang members and later led the Police to their hideout along Chevron Road where the team on approaching the hideout, came under serious attack by his gang members, but the suspect in an attempt to escape, was fatally maimed on his leg, thereby preventing his escape.
“His gang members escaped with gunshot injuries, while the suspect was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
“Manhunt for the other gang members is ongoing.” The statement concluded.
