Students of Edwin Clark University have taken to the streets on campus in protest against what they termed gross inhumane treatment by the school management against them affecting their academic wellbeing.
The riot which occasioned the destruction of many school properties took place in the early hours of Monday, January 27, 2025 in the University campus located in the agrarian community of Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government area of Delta State.
The grievances of the students were said to be incessant epileptic supply of potable water and electricity as well as the non-functionality of the Health Centre and other “avoidable hardships” they were being exposed to.
Lamenting the situation, the students in their hundreds trouped out with some of them carrying placards with inscriptions which read, “We are struggling and suffering for water, electricity and others;” “They only hear the language of riot;” “Enough is Enough.”
It was gathered that at the end of inferno, many offices and their computer systems were torched. It was also reported that it was not the first time students have protested over lack of basic amenities for their wellbeing in the university.
As at the time of filing in this report, management was yet to speak on the issue as calls put across to the Public Relations Officer were not responded to.
Meanwhile, the Vice Challecellor, Prof. Samuel Wara, has asked every student to vacate the campus temporarily while the impasse is being handled.
