Edo varsity awards scholarship to 100 indigent students

The Edo State University Uzairue has awarded scholarship to 100 indigent students of Edo State to enable them continue their educational pursuit in the institution.

The full scholarship award covers both the fees and accommodations, while other awards covers only the fees without accommodations.

Presenting the letters of award to the successful candidates at university, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Dawood Egbefo said the scholarship award is for brilliant students and less privileged of Edo State.

“These scholarships are designed to support students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance and at the same time may face financial challenges in pursuing their education” Egbefo said.

The acting VC said the scholarship award which was established by the founding fathers of the institution is to give better lives to indigent but brilliant students.

He congratulated the awardees for their hard work, dedication and academic achievement and  urged them to continue to excel in their academic pursuits and advised them to work hard to justify the award.

He, however, warned against any misconduct of the students saying that any of them found wanting, the scholarship would be withdrawn.

Earlier in his welcoming remarks, the Registrar, Mr. Habib Ekhalefo, expressed gratitude to the Edo State government and the founding fathers of Edo State University for investing in the education of underprivileged children. He encouraged the beneficiaries to continue working hard to achieve excellence.

Ekhalefo noted that to qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be indigenes of Edo State and demonstrate intelligence and a screening process was conducted to select the best candidates for this first batch. He also emphasized that the scholarship program is ongoing and urged indigenes to encourage their children to apply and prepare for a better future.

Some of the beneficiaries said they were delighted to benefit from the gesture.They said the scholarship would go a long way to support their education.
