The purported name change of Evboeka camp in Ihovbor dukedom of Edo State, to Oyemwen community by some individuals/persons, remains illegal and only exist in their imagination.
The Enogie of Ihovbor dukedom, HRH Fortune Igbinakenzua made this statement in a public notice he personally signed, and availed journalists in Benin on Monday, 31 October, 2022.
“This is to bring to the notice of the general public that some individuals/persons are embarking/making arrangements to change the name of Evboeka camp in Ihovbor to Oyemwen community.
“These individuals/persons do not have the consent and approval of the traditional ruler (Enogie) and most importantly, the consent and approval of the Royal father of Benin, HRM Oba Ewuare II.”
Earlier in 2012, Friday, 9 November, the same subject matter was published in the Nigerian Observer, and “a letter dated 4 October, 2012 carrying the outright disapproval of the Enogie of Ihovbor to any type of name change; was made to the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, he said.
“In this connection, the general public is hereby put on notice to disregard the purported name change; Evboeka remains the valid and undisputed name of the camp.
“Also, the general public is hereby notified and to be wary of any individual/persons/group of persons/corporate organization who deals with Evboeka under the illegal name of Oyemwen community; does so at his or her/their own risk.
“The general public is advised to take note of the notification in their own interest,” it was stated.
