Gov Sheriff Oborevwori

* Signs MoU with REA

By John Egie

Delta State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with Rural Electrification Agency, REA.

The MoU is aimed at providing electricity for 386,000 residents through 120,217 new connections, unlock $158m in private sector investments, and to boost the State’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP, to $2.9bn.

The move is also aimed at tackling the State’s crippling power deficit.

More than 60 per cent of communities in the state remain unconnected to the national grid.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said the deal was central to his administration’s MORE Agenda and Medium-term Development Plan (2024-2027).

He stressed that access to electricity was critical to productivity, investment attraction and improving livelihoods.

The Governor reaffirmed his administrations commitment to renewable energy as a catalyst for industrial growth, rural development and inclusive opportunities.
