New Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi has pledged his commitment to doing everything within the law to ensure that residents of the state feel safe in their homes, workplaces and communities.
He made the pledge during his maiden monthly press briefing in Asaba, Wednesday, April 1st, 2026.
He said a strong and effective security architecture is needed to support the growth and stability of Delta State being one of Nigeria’s economic hubs that plays a vital role in commerce, industry in national development.
He noted that while the State offers many opportunities, it also faces security challenges qnd the duty of the police command is to address those challenges and maintain peace and order across the State.
He acknowledged the efforts of his predecessor, CP Aina Adesola, the management team that has helped to strengthen the Command and promised to build forward, not backwards, consolidating gains while confronting emerging threats with renewed clarity.
According to him, the Inspector-General of Police has issued a clear directive on the need to streamline tactical operations across Commands stressing that the directive was both timely and necessary, “and under my leadership, all tactical teams within the Delta State Command will be properly coordinated, supervised, and aligned with the overall policing strategy of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu .
” The objective is clear: to eliminate duplication of duties, enhance accountability, and ensure that all tactical deployments are intelligence-driven and result-oriented.
” Crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult activities require quick and well-coordinated responses. By properly organising our tactical teams, we will be able to respond faster and deal with criminal activities more effectively.
” Let me make it clear that there will be no tolerance for indiscipline, abuse of human rights, and unprofessional conduct of officers, both on and off duty. All officers will be accountable for their actions as they must carry out their duties within the ambit of the law and treat members of the public with respect.
” Going forward, we will focus on preventing crime, not just reacting to it. The command will increase police presence in communities, strengthen intelligence gathering, and work closely with residents to improve security.” Security is a shared responsibility; all have a role to play in this wise. The command appreciates and will continue to work with the State Government, sister security agencies, Traditional rulers, community leaders, youths and other stakeholders.
” To the good people of Delta State, I encourage you to support the Police by providing useful, timely and credible information, as your cooperation is very important in helping the command to keep the State safe, if you see something, say something.
” To the media, I thank you for your role in informing the public. I look forward to working with you professionally and constructively.
“To the officers and men of the Command, the expectations are clear. Discipline, professionalism, and respect for the rule of law are non-negotiable. As I take on this role, I do so with a clear goal: to serve the people, to uphold the law, and to make Delta State safer for everyone”, the CP pledged
