Igbudu Market, the biggest market in Delta State may as well be, arguably, the dirtiest market in the state if the extreme deplorable poor state of sanitation ( at as the time of filing this report )is anything to go by.
The road located at the southern end of the market was impassable to traders even when there was no rain as it was filled with stagnant murky waters with a big refuse dump site on of one of its side .
The big carnal by the side of refuse dump site that linked Lower Erejuwa Road near Warri Garage was filled with over grown weeds .
It is also sad to note that the market toilet facilities, fresh cow meats stalls and livestock ( chicken ) section are located in the highly unhygienic area of the market.
The President General of Igbudu Market Traders Association, Comrade Oghenerume Kugbere who spoke to our correspondent bemoaned the poor sanitary state of the market as he disclosed that frantic efforts were made by traders to the concerned authorities to do something to clear the carnal and sanitize the area to no avail.
He also disclosed that the issue was presented to Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori during his electioneering campaign period.
” He promised that he will install security lights in the market and also look into the drainage problem if elected as governor.
” Thank God we voted for him and he won ” he added.
The Unuovwodo ( tradititioal representative of the Ovie of Agbarha Warri Kingdom ) of Otovwodo ( a host community to Igbudu Market ) High Chief Julius Tobore Edafiadjebre ( JP) who doubles as the Chairman of the area , spoke in the same vein.
The Agbarha Warri high chief stated that he had on several occasions supervised environmental sanitation exercise in the said area of the popular market.
He affirmed that residents have also made several efforts in reaching out to the concerned authorities on the issue to no avail.
He displayed recorded video clips that he sent to the Warri South Local Government Council to substantiate his claim.
All the respondents attributed the cause of the issue to the blocked carnal.
However attempts to hear from the Executive Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council Dr ( Hon ) Michael Tidi on the issue were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
It would be recalled that former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in his address at a public function, expressed deep concern about the poor sanitary state of the commercial hub of Delta State, Warri.
