Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, has described judges of lower courts such as magistrates and customary courts as critical stakeholders in justice delivery.
Ohwovoriole stated this in his office in Asaba when members of the Customary Court Department and Magistracy paid him a courtesy visit .
He commended the group for congratulating him on his appointment, adding that he was honored because it was coming from his own constituencies.
Ohwovoriole said that working together, they would achieve the objectives of the state government, which according to him was the enforcement of the rule of law in the state.
On the request of the group for the state government to increase their retirement age to 65 years, Mr. Ohwovoriole told them that there must be established procedures and guidelines to go about such issues since it was a national issue and not that of the state.
He lauded them for their support and assured them that everything would be handled in line with the rule of law establishing them.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Carl Moeteke ,noted that the appointment of Mr. Ohwovoriole was a round peg in a round hole, stressing that they were proud of him having grown from the system to the rank of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN.
Moeteke appealed to the state government to increase their retirement age to 65 , saying that Delta State should emulate states like Osun , Adamawa and Kwara in this regard.
Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of a collated document to Mr. Ohwovoriole.
Meanwhile, the State Attorney -General also received the members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Asaba Branch led by its chairman, Mr. Precious Nwadimuya, who came to congratulate him .
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Nwadimuya said that the visit was to felicitate him, being a member of the Branch on his appointment as the State Attorney -General and Commissioner for Justice.
Nwadimuya , however, pledged the support and cooperation of the members of the Branch to the Commissioner in his determination to enhance justice delivery in the state.
Responding, Mr. Ohwovoriole solicited the support of the body and assured them that as the Attorney -General of the state and member of the Asaba Branch of the Association, he would be the bridge between the government and the Association by carrying the Association along in the scheme of things.
