Coup phobia: CDS assures of Nigeria Armed Forces loyalty to Constitution

Maj Gen Christopher Musa, CDS

* Says democracy is the only option

By Jon Egie

In the face of threat to democracy in West Africa following military coup in the Niger Republic, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa, has said“the Armed Forces of Nigeria have a sacred duty to protect the people and the Constitution.”

Maj Gen Musa gave the assurance yesterday during the 16th International Defence Industry fair in Istanbul, Turkey.

He affirmed that democracy is the only laudable option for governance and political drives in Africa, adding that just as darkness cannot drive darkness out of a space except the power of light, ” so in Africa, illegitimacy should not be allowed to drive out legitimacy.”
