The Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Delta State, Isaiah Bozimo Esq has assured Deltans that he will not condone any breach of undue arrest on its citizens in any facility or correctional centre.
Bozimo who played host to members of “Ijaw Youth Community” in Asaba, revealed that the state, as part of its judicial service reform, has proposed a law that seeks the options of Nigerian Bar Association, members of the judiciary, the correctional centres,the police including his ministry on that burning issue.
He stressed further that the collaboration of his ministry is to see where the lapses lay in the system so that it could be dealt with accordingly.
The Attorney general and Commissioner for Justice who lauded the leadership of the Ijaw Youth Community in recognising the good works of the Governor , appreciated them further for keying into the initiatives that will take the Ijaw Nation into the next level.
The erudite legal luminary told them that he would not hesitate to be involved in what ever they will do as vibrant persons of like minds to move the Ijaw nation forward .
” You are vibrant young men and women who want to change the narrative. I pledge my support of changing the narrative of our people.”
While congratulating them further on their successful election as the leadership of the group, he charged them to keep the ball rolling such that at the end of their stewardship, they could have advanced the cause of their people to a greater height.
The Spokesman of the group, Comrade Collins Enekorogha, told the Commissioner that as his kinsmen, they were in his office to intimate him of their presence in Asaba and and environs.
The Ijaw Youth Community, explained to the Commissioner that they were graduates holding first degrees to PhD from various backgrounds and who are currently working in their respective organisations while many amongst them were still in the labour market looking for means to live on.
They explained that they decided to form the body since in the past, the acronym Ijaw Youth was synonymous with vandalism, thuggery, criminality etc, and their action was to change the narrative assuring that Ijaw youths are disciplined and reliable Nigerians most of who are not associated with criminality and other social vices.
Comrade Enekorogha, appealed for synergy between them and the Attorney general and Commissioner for Justice, in job opportunities, empowerment programmes, and the issues of some of their youths whom they claimed are still in some of the facilities and correctional centres for offences that are not linked to them .
They commended the Governor of Delta State Senator Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa for his laudable programme of youths empowerment and massive transformation of the entire landscape of Delta State.
