Barely three years after he wrote and launched a book titled THE TRAVAIL OF JOE, Mr Goodluck Ariejovbo, has launched two other story books, thereby boosting the league of literary works meant for the information and entertainment of the public.
The books are lCOMMUNAL CRISIS (a play) and VILLAGE PRESIDENT (a prose).
The launching ceremony which held at the event hall of the Glorious Group of Schools along Daniel Umukoro Street, Uloho Avenue, Ughelli, Delta State, drew a large crowd of people who came from different places to honour the launching invitation.
The day was bright as the sun took its position early, smiling happily on the day and giving the chief celebrant and his guests much leverage to move around freely for the business of the day which kicked off around 12 noon.
In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Prof. Ezekiel Agbalagba, Dean of Students Affairs, Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, said that the occasion was unique since it had to do with the unveiling of a book which is a medium of information and knowledge sharing, noting that information enlightens and empowers people. Prof. Agbalagba, represented by Dr. Felix E. I., a lecturer in the department of Psychology, University of PortHarcourt, commended the author for his writing prowess which he said would benefit readers immensely.
Referring to the author’s courage and assertiveness, he remarked that “To know and not to do is not to know.”
The ball was set rolling when the chairman and the chief launcher gave their launching donations and urged everyone present to do same generously. The chief launcher, Mr. Tobore Oghenetega, was represented by Mr. Godwin Abiala of the computer department, Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe (Ughelli Campus).
The visibly elated author, Goodluck Ariejovbo, also took his time to inform the audience about the passion/drive to write which, according to him, was ignited in him from childhood, having taken much inspiration from his late father who had degrees in English and Literary Studies from the University of Calabar. The Agbarha-born author said his aim in writing is to add to the body of knowledge and positively impact society. Ariejovbo who has authored several other books including THE TRIAL OF JOE and THE HONEST DRIVER said that the COMMUNAL CRISIS highlights the place of dialogue as the best option in the face of crisis, be it in the home, workplace and organizations.
According to him, “It is better and cheaper to avoid communal crisis than to start it … the best option … is dialogue.”
On the VILLAGE PRESIDENT, the readers, he said, are expected to be informed “… about the bad sides and the good sides of leadership with a view to upholding the good.”
Other personalities that spoke during the ceremony included Mr Godwin Mogun, chairman of the Book Launch Planning Committee; Hon. Tobore Felix, ex-speaker, Ughelli North Legislative House; Barr. Francis Esane, former President-General, Owevwe-Agbarha community; Mr. Nelson Erhijefe, proprietor of Glorious Group of Schools, Ughelli; Engr. James Hayford Ariejovbo; the book reviewers; and some of the author’s siblings.
