A 38 year Externally Displaced Person (Nigerian) , Mr. Blessed Agheyere , who was formerly residing in Baga in Borno State, one of the communities where the Islamic sect known as ‘Bokoharam’ unleashed massacre that left almost every member of the community dead has requested for asylum from the France government, the country where he presently resides.
Narrating his ordeal while he was in Baga, Blessed Agheyere said that it was only God that saved him from the murderers before he was able to escape to neighbouring Chad and later to Lybia and now Italy.
He said that if he returned to Nigeria, he might not know what could happen to his village , pointing out that everything he had acquired in life was in Baga and would not be easy or possible for him to go to another village .
Agheyere explained that there was a form of segregation in his country especially if he decides to go to the Southern part of the country since he hails from the Northern part.
He recalled that on January 7, 2015, the Islamic sect, armed with sophisticated weapons entered Baga village, which according to him is a minority group largely dominated by Christians.
He said that at the time of the attack in the morning, he was going to collect his fishing catch when he saw them and escaped Baga through the help of a boat.
According to him, when they penetrated into the community for the first time , they were looking for young men like himself, stressing that the armed militias told them to leave Baga that it was their land before they came another day for the massacre.
Agheyere added that in April 2023, the same armed group had come to terrorize Baga community which he said had made the place inhabitable, emphasizing that almost on daily basis their people were being kidnapped by the same group of armed Bokoharam who also burnt their houses .
While saying that the motive of the group was to convert everybody in Baga through Islamization especially by taking over the control of three Military Barracks around the area, Agheyere revealed that they came like Bokais preachers .
