The Appointments and Promotions Committee (A&PC) of the Delta State University, Abraka, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, on Tuesday 6th February, 2024, announced the promotion of Dr. (Mrs) Ufuoma Veronica Awhefeada to the rank of Professor.
The new Professor of Constitutionalism, Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law was educated at the University of Benin where she obtained the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in the Upper Second Class Division in the year 2000. She thereafter proceeded to the Nigerian Law School where she also obtained Upper Second Class Division in the Barrister at Law (BL) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2003 as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
She enrolled for postgraduate studies at her alma mater in 2004 and obtained the Master of Laws (LLM) degree in 2006. She joined the services of the Delta State University’s Faculty of Law in 2003 and steadily rose over the years obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law in 2015.
Since joining DELSU, she has served as Director of the Diploma in Law programme, Head of Department, acting Dean of the Faculty of Law (January 2022 to January 2023) and presently the acting Director of the Centre for Gender and Development Studies of the Delta State University, Abraka.
Highly regarded in the academia and in many circles for her brilliance, focus, discipline, diligence and principles, she is considered as a leading role model for younger people, especially females.
She is married to Professor Sunny Awhefeada and the union is blessed with children. She is the Usiaphre Uri of EffurunOtor Kingdom.
