ADC coalition will collapse in 3 months says Sheriff

* No ADC no support for Northern politicians says Lawal

By John Egie

In three months the coalition of opposition politicians using the platform of the Africa Democratic Congress, ADC, will collapse and die out.

The prediction was given by former Bornu State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff while speaking on Channel’s TV Politics Today programme, yesterday, Monday 27.

Sheriff said the buzz around the ADC will die down in three months as top politicians in the coalition all have presidential ambition with no one willing to step down for the other. Hence, he believes their ambitions will consequently lead to the implosion of the ADC and the party’s death in three months .

Shortly after the launch of the ADC, top sponsors of the coalition in the persons of Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi declared interest for the presidential ticket of the party. There are strong speculations that former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is also interested and will contest the presidential ticket of the ADC.

Modu Sheriff believes that the outcome of the struggle for the party presidential ticket will lead to an implosion, ultimate collapse and eventual death of the coalition in three months.

He added that Peter Obi is likely to leave the ADC and return to the PDP any time soon and when that happens, the contest will be left for Rotimi Amaechi and Atiku Abubakar whose political support bases across the nation are weak.

Meanwhile, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal has threatened that unless all elected officials including governors from the North joined the ADC they will not be re-elected in 2027.

He spoke during an interview on Trust TV’s Sunday Politics monitored by Spy News.

He accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of destroying and marginalising the North with infrastructure development and warned that Northerners in the ruling APC government will have no choice but to defect to the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In contrast, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2027 general elections. He also endorsed Biodun Oyebanji for re-election as Governor of Ekiti State in 2027.

He gave the endorsements while speaking in a political gathering in Ado-Ekiti yesterday.

Fayose declared his unreserved support for the second term bids of President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji, citing their performance in office so far as basis for his endorsement.

Fayose emphasised that although he is not a member of the APC, and will never be, his support for the party is performance based and not tied to political affiliation.

“I am not a member of APC, I will never be but I stand to say I have seen good works” he said.
