Chief Festus Keyamo

By John Egie

A Chieftain of African Democratic Congress, ADC in Delta State, Chief Julius Efeni Akpovoka has lambasted the Minister of Aviation, Chief Festus Keyamo (SAN) for spearheading a move to make Governor Sheriff Oborevwori the sole candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the 2027 Delta State governorship election.

Chief Akpovoka was reacting to the outcome of a stakeholders meeting held yesterday, Sunday, October 12, in Government House, Asaba during which the Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo moved a motion calling for the endorsement of His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the sole candidate of the party for the 2027 guber election. The motion was seconded by Engr Victor Ochei and other leaders made remarks in that line.

The motion also called for the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole candidate of the party for the 2027 presidential election.

The meeting was attended by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy Sir Monday Onyeme, the State Chairman of the party, Elder Omeni Sobotie, immediate past governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Festus Keyamo among other critical stakeholders.

But Chief Julius Akpovoka reacting to the outcome of the meeting via a video clip made available to Spy News expressed disappointment in the person and pedigree of the Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, a hitherto renowned human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who should know the law better and should be capable of interpreting the APC Constitution properly in accordance with its letters as it concerns party primary election matters, but chose to do otherwise.

” I am so disappointed that with all that is happening in Delta State; poor infrastructure, insecurity across the state especially in Agbarho, poor healthcare delivery, poor educational facilities with children lying on the floor to learn, low economic opportunities; yet you Keyamo can rise up and move a motion asking the National Leadership of APC to submit the governorship form of only one person to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the 2027 election.

“What happened in 2023 in PDP will not happen in APC in 2027. Whether it is PDP, APC, ADC, Labour party; we are going to spread across all the political parties. We the entire youths and people of Delta State will be focused.

Gov Oborevwori, Onyeme, Sobotie, Keyamo, Okowa and other critical stakeholders at the meeting

” This is not the time of Street Governor. This is the time we need somebody who is focused to be Governor of Delta state in 2027. We don’t want a Street Governor with street sense anymore.

Ex Gov Ifeanyi Okowa speaking during the meeting

” We are Urhobo and we Urhobo will determine who completes our tenure not somebody from Delta North who brought his stooge to become a governor of the state, and look at what he is doing, receiving over N3 trillion within the period he has become a governor without any tangible thing to show for it and you are calling on members of APC to endorse him for a second term in office, it will not happen in Delta State.

“Go and study the Constitution of the APC, examine the position you have taken and judge if what you did is right in the sight of justice, fair play and morality.

” You cannot deceive us. We, the people of Delta Central will come together and chose our governor who will serve out the remaining four years so that we will not continue with this Street Governor anymore.”
