The event which was the 30th matriculation ceremony of the institution took place on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at the school premises in Ofuoma town in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

In her speech, the Provost of the college, Dr. (Mrs.) Odiete Eravweroso Congrat, described the matriculation as historic as it was the first matriculation ceremony under her provostship which began in August last year when she was appointed by the state government.

“From today, you are no longer applicants or hopeful candidates; you are bonafide students of this institution.
“You are training, not just for jobs but for professions that touch human lives directly. Your certificate may qualify you but your character will define you.”

Dr. Congrat also pointed out that the Delta State College of Health Sciences and Technology is committed to the production of competent health professionals who are well groomed through quality teaching and adherence to professional standards in a conducive learning environment.

The Provost who commended the Delta State Government for its commitment to educational development and the development of the health workforce in the state also appreciated the contributions of the Governing Council, management, staff, parents and guardians to the growth of the institution.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Chief Dr. Chris Oharisi, highlighted the place of infrastructural development in an institution and pointed out some critical infrastructural needs of the school to include the completion of the 600 seat-capacity auditorium, a functional science laboratory and a solution to the prolonged electricity outage already spanning almost a decade in the institution.

Dr. Oharisi noted that the continued absence of the critical infrastructures in the institution was a major concern as it did not promote effective teaching, learning and research therein, adding that the recent upgrade of the institution from a monotechnic to a full-fledged college warranted a commensurate facility upgrade.

He, however, expressed confidence in the commitment of the state government and relevant agencies to taking the necessary steps to meet the infrastructural needs of the school as requested towards making the institution a centre of excellence for health education.

Highlight of the occasion was the taking of the matriculation oath by the new students.
