Oborevwori challenges politicians on honest service to the people

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has challenged politicians and other persons in positions of leadership to check themselves if they are faithfully serving the people with honour, and will leave the people better than they met them when they assumed position of leadership when they leave the stage.

The governor threw the challenge in a remark during the 18th Chief Demas Akpore Annual Memorial Lecture organised by The Ejiro & Otive Igbuzor Foundation; Friday, December 12, 2025 at the Government College, Ughelli.

Represented by Olorogun Senator Emmanuel Edesiri Aguariavwodo, the governor said the passion of the celebrated Chief Demas Akpore (late) for education resonates deeply in his administration and “through the MORE Agenda, we continue to invest in the schools, teachers and human capital across the state”, because his government and members of his political family share Demas Akpore’s belief that “no society rises above the quality of its classrooms”.

 

Unveiling of the book by Aguariavwodo

The governor called on youths to study the book, ” The Life, Ideas and Contributionsof Demas Akpore” dedicated to the late Chief Demas Akpore whose story shows that greatness is steady, purposeful and defined by service, not noise”.

Prof Onofere Princewill Okereka, who presented a keynote address emphasized that hardwork does pay and described the celebrated Chief Demas Akpore as a great man, “a man of integrity and accountability in leadership, a rare piece of discipline, courage, honesty and love for humanity.”

In a valedictory speech, Chief Jomo Akpore, heir of the celebrated Chief Demas Akpore recalled his father’s enormous contribution to development of education and establishment of the Orogun Grammar School with support of teaching staff from the United States of America.

Highlight of the occasion was the unveiling and launching of the book, The Life, Ideas and Contributions of Chief Demas Akpore by Governor Oborevwori who recommended the book to all for a read.
