Delta CP calls for public support in crime fighting as Operatives arrest kidnap suspects

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi has called for continued support from members of the public by providing credible and timely information that will help the police contain the activities of criminals in the State.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi  made the call while reacting to the arrest of suspected kidnappers and recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition by Operatives of CP-SAT, a formation in the Command.

He said the achievements testify of the dedication of men and officers of the Command to duty adding that such fete will be replicated until all members of criminal syndicates operating in the State are brought to justice.

While urging citizens to remain calm as they go about their legitimate businesses, the CP reassured that the safety of citizens remain top priority of the Command and hence, the need of public support in that regard.

According to him there is no safe haven for criminals in the State as the Command is actively monitoring and tracking the activities of criminals in all areas of budding threats to the peace and safety of citizens and ready to decisively deal with those found wanting.

The Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, CP-SAT had on Sunday, May 20, arrested a kidnap suspect, Abubakar Hassan, 30, of Niger State resident in Woji Area of Port harcourt. The suspect is the kingpin of a kidnap syndicate operating along Ughelli-Ozoro axis of the State.

Two AK-47 assault rifles, 32 rounds of live ammunition and four AK-47 magazines were recovered from him.

The syndicate had been terrorizing victims in Delta, Rivers, Imo and Enugu States.

Another kidnap suspect, Obi Ezekiel 38, was arrested along Ughelli Road during a stop and search duty by men Safer Highway Patrol team.

A locally fabricated revolver pump action gun, a single barrel gun with 15 rounds of live cartridges were recovered from him.

A statement issued by the Command’s PPRO, SP Edafe Bright said investigation on the arrests was ongoing.
