A surreal scene happened in Turkey during the match between Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor on Sunday 9th of February 2025.
Around the 10th minute, the referee wrongly awarded a penalty to the home team for an alleged foul on Mertens. This infuriated the visitors, who were bottom of the table, and they left the pitch after about a quarter of an hour , forcing the referee to suspend the match.
From the very beginning, controversy was fueled with two factions in particular: on one side, those who accused Galatasaray of “stealing”, on the other, those who instead took it out on the referee team. Upon leaving the stadium, however, the vice president of Adana declared that he had made the choice to leave the field not to go against the Gala but against the referees.
In the following minutes, other teams also spoke out: among these, obviously, Fenerbahce – Gala ‘s historic rival – who published a statement with a clear accusation against the Giallorossi of having damaged the State and the championship.
