Criminal gang that kidnapped 70yr old woman and collected  N7.9m ransom arrested by the police

A criminal gang that was involved in the recent kidnap of a 70 year old woman and subsequent  collection of N7.9million ransom have been busted and arrested by the police in Ewu Town.

The gang undertook the kidnap job on Sept 8, and four days later the Crack Squad attached to Area Command Ughelli acting on a tip off,  stormed a brothel cum criminal hideout in Ewu town Ughelli South LGA and arrested five suspects namely; Dominic Uweru “m” Alias Ovwolo, 48, Isaac Oghenerukevwe ‘m’ Alias Plug 34, Oviri Godstime “m” 25, Junior Sunday ‘m’ and Efedeki Adjovo ‘m’, .

One single barrel gun, three locally made cut-to-size gun, cash sum of Four hundred and fifty thousand naira (#450,000.00) ransom, one Moniepoint POS machine, one OPAY POS machine,  wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.

They confessed to various armed robbery/kidnapping operations in Ughelli and environs,  including the kidnap of a 70-year-old woman (name withheld) who they kidnapped on Sunday, September 8, 2024 and collected the sum of Seven million, Nine hundred thousand naira ransom (#7,900,000) on Tuesday, September 10, 2024  before her release.

The suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, a total of 968 7.6mm ammo have been recovered by the police from suspects at different locations across the state.

Police Public Relations officer in Delta State Police Command, SP Edafe Bright disclosed in a release issued by him.

Locally fabricated guns were also recovered from the suspects in Aboh town and Agbarho after the search of one Ovoke Enaike, 43, a native of Oviorie in Ethiope East but resident in Ehwere Agbarho.

At Aboh the police during a stop and search intercepted a motorcycle whose rider and passenger disembarked and ran away leaving a bag that contained 930 rounds of the 7.6mm ammo. One of the suspects , Anthony Goddey was however arrested and is helping the police in investigation.
