There was a low turnout of voters in the gurbernatorial and house of assembly in the polling units and wards monitored by our correspondent in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas of Delta State.
There also was early voting in all the polling units and wards as voting started as early as 800:am in the said polling units and wards.
The elections were peaceful and orderly at as the time of filing this report.
However those that spoke affirmed that the turnout was very low compared to the presidential and national assembly elections.
Some of the polling units in Pessu and some wards in Warri South Local Government and Uvwie Areas INEC officials were less busy with the exercise when our correspondent arrived the areas .
The Chairman of Lower Erejuwa Motor Sparts Association Chief Emeka Odili noted that the turnout of electorate in the polling units in premises of Vertinary , Lower Erejuwa Road Warri was very low compared to the presidential and national assembly elections .
He attributed the cause to the dismal performance of INEC in the last presidential and national assembly elections.
” We are for Obidient Movement . Most of us are highly disappointed with the dismal performance of INEC in the presidential and national assembly elections.” Odili added
The immediate past Chairman of the association, Deacon Francis Uju spoke in the same vein.
The immediate past president of Okere Urhobo Development Movement Comrade Cyril Eboh , All Progressive Congress, APC, chieftain in Warri, Chief Birinus Ojogri , a Labour Party supporter in Uvwie Local Government Jakeme Dioren Awin, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain in Warri South Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Popo among others also noted that the turnout was low and that the elections were peaceful and orderly.
A Senior Special Assistant SSA to Governor Okowa on Political Affairs, Hon Dr Hope George and Chairman PDP Bowen Ward Elder Harold Blackson also remarked that the elections were peaceful and orderly.
” People thought that there will be violence but as you can see , the elections are peaceful” George stated.
All the correspondents were full of praises for INEC for the early voting in both local government areas.
It would be recalled that soldiers were seen at major road junctions in Warri South Local Government Area in night of the eve of the elections.
One of the junctions is the everbusy Cemetery Road Junction by Warri Garage .
