The All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo State Chapter, has said the former Speaker, Edo House of Assembly, Hon. Elizabeth Ativie lied about the real reasons she left the Party.
It made the disclosure in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Peter Enoserogbe Uwadiae Igbinigie Esq. and availed the media on Wednesday, in reaction to Hon. Ativie’s earlier announcement of her resignation from the Party.
The reasons she gave were vilifying, puerile, hollow and empty it said; adding it was rather “a face saving move to cover her sinister, clandestine and aborted surreptitious move to bring our great Party to ridicule, odium, opprobrium and manifest disrepute.”
Asserting, that the APC conducted the freest, fairest primaries and convention to elect candidates to the various political positions throughout the country, it said:
“In the primary for the Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, Hon. Elizabeth Ativie participated and came a distant 3rd and last in the same election, ably won by Dr. (Chief) Billy Osawaru.
“But the APC was surprised and shocked that sooner than the result of the primary was released, Hon. Elizabeth Ativie in connivance with her political co – travellers futilely attempted to change the submitted name of Dr. (Chief) Billy Osawaru duly recognized by our Party and INEC that monitored the primary, with her name.
“An act that is not only an electoral fraud, which is an infraction on the Party Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022 and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended; but also a desperate and calculated attempt to bring our Chapter of the Party to disrepute.
“Upon the discovery of this humongous, disturbing and embarrassing acts, which would have earned her a disgraceful political cum criminal trial with its attendance consequences, she quickly embarked on this more destructive political adventure.”
Whereas, Ativie had attributed her resignation from the APC to unresolved crises facing the Party in Uhunmwonde and Orhionwwon Local Government Areas and entirely in Edo.
“The reason for my resignation is attributed to the current unresolved crises facing APC in Uhunmwonde and Orhionwwon LGAs, and the entire APC in Edo.
“I wish to inform my teeming supporters and the general public that I have officially resigned from my former party, the APC, as a result of the crises since after the last primaries, in view of lack of internal democracy, with some persons allowed to hijack the party.
“It is not because I did not have the opportunity to have the ticket (to represent Uhunmwonde/Orhionmwon constituency in the House of Representatives), but I have been a feminine activist, and I have fought assiduously to ensure women inclusion in decision making in Edo State and Nigeria.”
However, the womenfolks were reassured of their recognition: “Our Party shall continue to recognize women in our scheme of dealings.
“It will also be important to state here and now, that women have been appointed into key positions in the campaign committees of our Presidential candidate and same was replicated in all the campaign committees from State Governorship, Senatorial, House of Representatives to State Assemblies.”
Describing Ativie as near irrelevant in the political space of Edo State, the Party asserts that it remains united and will not be distracted by her callous and baseless moves.
