* Laments increased vandalism

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), has begun a Debt Rescheduling Scheme (DRS) for customers in its area of operation.
This was in recognition of the hard financial situation confronting customers, “especially this period of COVID 19”.
The MD/CEO of the company, Funke Osibodu made the assertion in Benin-City, Edo State on Thursday, 19 August, 2020 during a parley with Journalists, and other stakeholders.
The Scheme, Osibodu said was a soft landing approach for customers to settle their outstanding debts, on electricity consumption.
As facilitator, the company “offers discount ranging from 5 percent to 25 percent, down payment of 25 percent, with balance payable over four years or provision of an additional 5 percent discount where a customer pays off such outstanding instantly.”
On the benefits; she explained, “the Scheme ensures that customers who subscribe are not disconnected and are given accelerated metering process (for those without meters).
On vandalization of the company’s infrastructure, Osibodu raises the alarm that an increase of the scourge has been recorded across its franchise zone: Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti.
It was more worrisome, that masterminds have continued to invent new ideas beyond human understanding executing their evil acts, she laments.
Giving a statistical breakdown of the vandalized infrastructure and where they occurred, She appealed to all stakeholders to join force in the fight against the menace.
“We are however not relenting in our effort to overcome this societal issue” She assured.
Osibodu further disclosed, that BEDC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).
It was on the development of an ‘end-to-end’ power generation and distribution across the value chain, to deliver minimum of 250mw of additional power to boost supply within the company’s franchise area.
“We are to work together to identify and prioritize critical projects to increase power supply, whilst improving on technical and commercial environment.
“The focus will be to provide supply to certain areas as well as upgrading of some critical distribution infrastructure.”
The Parley was the first after a long while, following out break of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The BEDC boss used the event to give update on developments in the power sector generally, and operations of the company.
