A total of 757 students on Wednesday, 30 March, 2022 swore to the oath of allegiance during the matriculation of 2022/2023 academic year at the Edo State University, Uzairue.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor while delivering his address; disclosed that 683 candidates were offered admission by JAMB to study in the Institution, as 74 students transferred from other Universities.
After diligent screening, they were cleared as qualified to study in their chosen field, he added.
The Vice Chancellor advised the matriculants to take their study seriously and shun all vices and acts that could truncate their educational journey in the University.
He warned against acts of hooliganism, smoking, indulgence in illicit drugs of whatever name like Indian hemp, Colorado, skunk, heroine etc saying they are highly forbidden and never tolerated in the Institution, which he asserted has carved for itself; a highly dignified image within its short period of existence.
The Vice Chancellor therefore stressed the need for them to make the best use of the available facilities; to enable them become well-grounded and employable after graduation from the University.
Prof. Aluyor claimed that inspite of the short time of the University’s existence, it has achieved numerous mile stones.
It was the 3rd best University in Nigeria in the 2018 Open Education Resources ranking by the National Universities Commission, 4th best University in Nigeria by Times Higher Education ranking 2021 among others.
Also, it is the first University to own an Anotomage for the training of medical students in Nigeria; and the first in Nigeria and West Africa to acquire the CANVAS Learning Management System for teaching.
Prof. Aluyor congratulated the students he said, were fortunate to have been admitted into the community of an emerging World class University.
He urged parents to be partners in progress; by monitoring the activity and performance of their children in terms of class attendance, text, assignment etc through the CANVAS Learning management System of the Institution.
“CANVAS Learning management System afford you the opportunity to check on your ward’s performance in the University, by actively using the parents section of the learning management System”.
The VC however reassured of the University’s management resolve to keep the trust of shaping the future of the students.
“I want to assure you on behalf of Management that we will never take that trust for granted!”.
This year’s event was the 7th matriculation of the University.
